Part-Time Deputies at Active Shooter Training at Ozark P.D.

03/13/2024

A big thanks to the Ozark Police Department for allowing us to use their training area for barricaded subject/active shooter training for our part-time/auxiliary deputy practical. This is the last training of many classes for our newest part-time and reserve deputies. As you can see in the pictures, the Ozark Police Department, which is housed in an old warehouse, has an area they constructed that has numerous rooms to use for shooter training. There are bedrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen, living areas, offices, a school room, and other real-world places that we encounter as law enforcement officers. They also have simunition guns, which are like paint ball guns but are more realistic, that are used in this training. Our full-time deputies will also be going through similar in-service training at the Ozark Police facility in the next few months.

For part-time or auxiliary deputy basic training, a person must take an 80-hour online class through the State of Arkansas which has a test at the end. Then the person attends a 30-hour practical portion which includes O.C. spray, defensive tactics, accident investigation, first aid, TASER, and the barricaded subject/active shooter training they went through today. After this, they start their field training and spend time in Dispatch, the Detention Center, Court Security, and then 200 hours with the full-time patrol deputies.
Our part-time/auxiliary deputies received great training today from the Ozark Police staff and we appreciate them for taking their time to instruct our deputies and for the use of their facility.
