We want to show an example on how useful the Drone Team and the Logan County All Hazards Team are with helping out on incidents.  Recently, we received a report of a woman who attempted to commit suicide by hanging and when she was discovered by her boyfriend, she ran into the woods.  When our deputies arrived, they could not find her so we called out the all-volunteer Logan County All Hazards Team to assist.  When I arrived, I assisted with the search but it was raining so I could not deploy the drones that we have.  When it quit raining, I deployed our drone that has a thermal camera and found the woman within ten minutes of flying the drone.  She was laying down in tall grass and weeds near a fallen tree and could not be seen by the people searching on the ground.  She was able to walk and we took her to the ambulance.

 

As you can see in the thermal photo, her thermal image was very bright and was easily seen.  When compared to the other photo which is the regular drone camera, she is very hard to see and I would not have seen her just using the regular camera.  You can also see a dog near the bottom of the photo that did not like the drone and followed it around barking at it.

 

The Logan County All Hazards Team is a volunteer team organized under the Logan County Office of Emergency Management.  Their Team Leader is Anthony Sanfilippo and they train and meet monthly.  It is great to have a trained and organized team who can come out and assist our deputies in searches.  If you want volunteer, you can contact the Office of Emergency Management during office hours at 479-963-3218.  Our volunteer fire departments are also looking for volunteers if you are interested in helping your local community.
