On January 12, 2022, the Logan County Sheriff's Office, with the assistance of the Arkansas State Police and the 15th Judicial District Drug Task Force, executed a search warrant at a residence on Martin Luther King Drive in the Gray Rock community north of Paris.  The search warrant was obtained by our Narcotics Investigator, Howard Bates.  During the execution of the search warrant, the investigators located and seized approximately 10 grams of a crystal substance alleged to be methamphetamines, numerous pills that showed to be Schedule II controlled substances, approximately $4,300.00 in cash, numerous drug paraphernalia, and two firearms.  The crystal substance was field-tested and showed a presumptive positive reaction as methamphetamines. The owner of the residence, Alfred Bates, 65, was present and arrested on scene.  Mr. Bates is a convicted felon and cannot possess firearms.  The crystal substance and pills will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory.  The other items were seized and placed into evidence.  Alfred was arrested and transported to the Logan County Detention Center and booked in on the anticipated charges of Possession of Methamphetamines with the Intent to Deliver, Possession of Schedule I or II Controlled Substances, Maintaining a Drug Premise, Felon in Possession of Firearms, and Simultaneous Possession of Drugs and Firearms.
