LCSO News Release Graphic

Yesterday afternoon, the Logan County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call about a domestic disturbance at a residence on Rasor Street in the city of Blue Mountain in southeastern Logan County. When our deputy arrived, he found the body of Elva Smith, 83, who lives at the residence. There were three other family members on scene who live in the residence. More deputies, the Chief Deputy and I, and officers from the Magazine and Booneville Police Departments and from Probation and Parole arrived to assist in securing the scene. Our investigators arrived soon after and with the assistance of a special agent from the Arkansas State Police, they processed the scene and interviewed witnesses. Elva had what appeared to be blunt-force trauma marks on her head. Her body was removed from the scene by the Logan County Coroner and will be sent to the Arkansas Crime Laboratory. Gary Grubbs, 58, who is the son of Elva and who was present at the residence when our deputy arrived, was transported to the Logan County Sheriff's Office for questioning and he is a suspect in the death of his mother. The investigators seized what is believed to be the weapon used in Elva's death and seized other evidence which will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory. The investigation continues in this case.
