On August 19, 2025, officers from the Booneville Police Department responded to Mercy Hospital in Booneville for a gunshot victim who had driven himself to their emergency room. Upon arrival, the Booneville officers spoke with the victim and found out the incident happened out in the un-incorporated area of Logan County. Logan County Sheriff's Office Lt. Mark Walker arrived at the hospital and spoke with the victim who advised that he had been shot in the back by Derik Brady, 43, at a residence on South State Highway 23 towards Ione in southwestern Logan County. The suspect and victim know each other and have been in dispute before this incident. Derik is also a convicted felon. A person who was present with the victim at the hospital also witnessed the incident.
Investigators, deputies, and I then went to the residence along with an Arkansas State Police special agent and a Booneville officer and found evidence of the incident at the residence. The suspect was not present. The scene was photographed and processed. Through our investigation, we determined that the suspect maybe at some residences on C Bar C Road or Trail Camp Road near the Ione community. We went there and located the suspect's car behind one of the residences and found the suspected firearm near another residence. The car was towed for evidence processing.
We then learned that the suspect maybe at a residence in Scott County and we notified the Scott County Sheriff's Office and Arkansas State Police of the location. They went to the address and located the suspect. He was arrested and transported to the Scott County Sheriff's Office and interviewed by Lt. Walker and an Arkansas State Police special agent. He was then transported to the Logan County Detention Center and booked in on the anticipated charges of Battery in the First Degree and Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The victim is in stable condition in a hospital.
