On December 14, 2021, Logan County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Investigator Howard Bates received information that a stolen black Acura car was located at Jamie Simpson's residence on County Line Road near Sugar Grove in southeast Logan County. This vehicle was reported stolen out of Johnson County by a murder suspect out of that county who was captured several days ago near Clarksville. Investigator Bates and Logan County Sheriff's Office Patrol Sgt. Jay Crosby went to the residence and found a black Acura parked there. The VIN sticker on the door was removed and a dash VIN plate from a black Acura owned by Dave Ann Townsend was attached on top of the original dash VIN plate (Townsend's Acura was found burned in Scott County and the dash VIN was removed). After removing the dash VIN plate that belonged to Townsend, they found the Acura's dash VIN plate under it and that plate matched the VIN of the stolen vehicle from Johnson County.

Investigator Bates and Sgt. Crosby then went to the residence and after knocking for a while, Jamie Simpson, 53, came to the door. She has a search waiver on file due to a suspended sentence plea agreement on a felony case. They searched the residence and Investigator Bates found a pouch containing several plastic baggies containing crystal substances. He also found a glass smoking pipe with residue. Sgt. Crosby located a brown wooded box that had numerous smoking devices inside that are commonly used to ingest methamphetamine, a set of digital scales, and a brown glass vial with a crystal substance. They also seized $450.00 in cash.
Jamie was arrested and transported to the Logan County Detention Center and booked in on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine with Purpose to Deliver and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. An Arkansas State Police special agent and a Johnson County investigator arrived to investigate the stolen Acura.

The seized items were taken to the Logan County Sheriff's Office and field-tested which showed a positive presumptive reaction as methamphetamine. The total approximate weight of the crystal substance was 5 grams. The items were seized and will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for testing.

Dave Ann Townsend, 42, was arrested by the Arkansas State Police later on the same day in Booneville for Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution in regards to her actions involving the murder suspect and his vehicle. She was transported to the Johnson County Detention Center. Our agency is pursuing Theft by Receiving charges against her for the stolen vehicle.
